Documentary
Setotolwane High School is proud of its rich history, and we believe that our legacy deserves to be documented for future generations. That is why we have assembled a team of talented individuals who are dedicated to drafting a documentary of our school history. We have been conducting interviews with past educators, principals, and luminaries who are Setotolwane alumni, and our project is ongoing. Stay tuned for updates!

Wall of Remembrance
The passing of our alumni members leaves an unfillable void in the Setotolwane community. To remember their lives and contributions, we will be creating a wall of remembrance in their honor. This meaningful tribute will inspire us to keep the memory of our loved ones alive and celebrate their lives for generations to come.

Science and Hospitality Institute
Setotolwane has always been known for providing its students with the best education possible. As part of this legacy, the alumni is in the process of setting up a Science and Hospitality Institute. This project will help learners from nearby communities to keep up with the changing demands of the job market and ensure that they are well-prepared for their future careers.

Tourism
The school has a deep connection to the Anglican Church and Bishop John Latimar Fuller, who played a pivotal role in its establishment. This is an opportunity to provide international and local tourists a unique and spiritual experience as they visit the cemetery on the school grounds where Bishop Fuller and his family were laid to rest and the buildings that were part of that early missionary work. The Alumni will be working closely with the Anglican Church in this regards.

Setotolwane High School: A Significant Social and Educational Site under Threat
Setotolwane High School is a significant social and educational site in South Africa with a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. However, the school is currently under threat of abandonment and destruction.
The school has been abandoned since 2019, when the last group of students, who were partially sighted learners, were removed from the site. The buildings are now dilapidated and the property is at risk of land grab and invasion.
Despite its current state, Setotolwane High School is a valuable historical and educational resource. The school has played a significant role in shaping schooling, education, and vocational education in South Africa. It has also produced many luminaries who continue to contribute to the growth of the country across all sectors.
The school's significance is encapsulated in its:
-
Historical value: Setotolwane High School is one of the oldest high schools in South Africa and was the first "Model C" school. It has played a significant role in shaping schooling, education, and vocational education in the country.
-
Educational value: Setotolwane High School has produced many luminaries who continue to contribute to the growth of South Africa across all sectors. The school's ethos and discipline have instilled in its learners, administrators, and teachers a commitment to excellence.
The school is currently not afforded any legal protection under the National Heritage Act 25 of 1999, despite its historical and educational value. This is because Setotolwane High School is not a natural resource.
There is a need to revive Setotolwane High School to its historical glory. The school's vast piece of land has great potential to be used for educational purposes. With the right investment and support, Setotolwane High School can once again be a beacon of excellence in education.
Call to action
We urge the South African government and other stakeholders to take action to preserve and revive Setotolwane High School. This significant social and educational site should not be allowed to fall into ruin.
We call on the government to:
-
Grant Setotolwane High School legal protection under the National Heritage Act 25 of 1999.
-
Provide funding for the restoration and renovation of the school's buildings.
-
Work with the community and other stakeholders to develop a plan for the sustainable use of the school's land and resources.
We also call on the private sector and individuals to support the revival of Setotolwane High School. This can be done through financial donations, volunteerism, and other forms of support.
Together, we can save Setotolwane High School and ensure that it continues to play a vital role in the education and development of South Africa's youth.

Career Exhibition
Career exploration can be a difficult and overwhelming process for many learners. That's why the Setotolwane Alumni Association is dedicated to offering guidance and support through our career exhibitions. Our experienced SAA members are eager to share their knowledge and expertise with nearby communities, providing valuable insights into various academic, private, and public service fields. Though our project has been delayed due to the COVID-19 lockdown, we remain committed to this vision and look forward to continuing our efforts to help learners make informed career choices.

Agro Processing Project
As Setotolwane Alumni, we are considering setting up an Agro Processing Institute to educate learners and local farmers on agro-processing. Limpopo Province is predominantly an agricultural province, and we believe that such an institute would be a valuable resource for the community.
